Watch out for uncertified boxes
Many cheap boxes run outdated Android without Google certification and with unknown software preloaded. A certified Google TV device costs a little more and stays updated.
Settings worth changing
- Network: use Ethernet where the box has a port; otherwise 5 GHz Wi-Fi.
- Decoder: hardware by default; software only for a channel that stays black.
- Frame rate matching: turn it on in TiviMate if motion looks jerky on sport.
- Guide update: once a day, and set the offset if times are out after a clock change.
- Built-in VPN: switch it on if your provider slows video in the evening.
